People
Phil James
Dr. James is an attorney and psychologist with summa cum laude doctoral degrees in both clinical and organizational psychology. He has 25 years of experience as a trial consultant and is a well-versed clinician and organizational consultant.
As a trial consultant, Dr. James has worked on a wide variety of case including patent infringement, product liability, errors and omissions, breach of contract, professional liability, negligent construction, and wrongful death.
He has a particular specialty: managing juror reactions in punitive damage cases. Dr. James serves as panel counsel for companies in industries whose products and services attract such claims.
Mark Phillips
An attorney out of the University of North Carolina, Mark Phillips has 25 years of experience as a trial consultant. He has worked on over 400 major lawsuits and interviewed over 5000 jurors.
Landmark Case
In 1986, after a 6-year legal battle, 196 volumes of deposition testimony, and 78 days of trial, a jury returned a verdict for eight families against W.R. Grace & Co. The complex tale was recounted vividly in “A Civil Action,” a best-selling book and movie.
Mark was a member of the plaintiff’s legal team and the case taught him many lessons, such as the notion that the courtroom is a poor classroom for complex subjects, witnesses need emotional and factual preparation, and a jury’s view of the evidence is different from a lawyer’s view.

Trial Solutions Inc. began as a firm offering courtroom research and consultation services. Over the years, we have expanded our services to include document management, trial graphics, risk reduction, quality management, and trial presentation.
